WHEN THE BOYS MEET AT THE ANNUAL BOYS TALK

On every 14th February, Uganda Young Positives hosts an annual event that gathers adolescent boys and young men from different backgrounds. This event creates a safe and inclusive space for these young men to engage in holistic discussions about their lives. They delve into the dynamics of being a boy, discussing the expectations, pressures, challenges, hiccups, and temptations they face. They receive guidance on how to overcome these challenges and become upright individuals as they transition into adulthood and manhood.

The event also aims to support the growth and development of these young men by providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. They learn about career planning, financial management, healthy relationships, and other topics that are essential for their personal success.

This year’s event was held at the famous Kiwatule Recreation Center, known for hosting the yearly Boxing Day celebrations for young people. The venue was chosen for its welcoming atmosphere and reputation for hosting successful events.

The goal of engaging adolescent boys and young men is to empower them to become leaders in their communities. By nurturing their skills and confidence, they can create a better future for themselves and for society as a whole. The benefits of this investment are clear, as these young men go on to achieve their goals, start businesses, volunteer in their communities, and become active members of society.

WHEN YOU FINALLY FIT IN

Collins had always been a troubled teenager, struggling with the pressures of growing up in a world that seemed to be moving too fast for him. He had trouble finding his place in the world and felt like he was constantly being judged by his peers and elders alike. One day, his friend told him about the Uganda Young Positives’ Boys Talk event that was coming up.

At first, Collins was hesitant to attend, but he decided to give it a try. Little did he know that this event would change his life forever. At the event, Collins was welcomed into a safe space where he was able to speak up about his fears and get solutions and advice. He learned about the dynamics of being a boy, the expectations and pressures, the challenges, hiccups and temptations, and ways to overcome them. He also learned about HIV and how to protect himself from it. He was able to connect with other adolescent boys and young men from different backgrounds, and they shared their experiences, challenges, and triumphs.

Through this event, Collins realized that he was not alone in his struggles. He learned that he could be a part of a community that would support him and help him grow into an upright, holistic person. He felt empowered and inspired to make a difference in his community.

Collins experience at the Boys Talk event was not unique. Many adolescent boys and young men have found a sense of belonging and purpose through events like these. By engaging young men in discussions about life, love, growth, and career, we can help them become better equipped to face the challenges of adulthood. When we invest in the growth and development of our youth, we are investing in the future of our communities. By empowering adolescent boys and young men, we are creating a better tomorrow for everyone.
